Eddy Current uses electromagnetic induction with alternating currents passed through a coil. The coil produces alternating magnetic field. Used extensively in the aircraft industry and manufacturing industry to look for surface and subsurface defects. Also used in the Nuclear and Petro chemical industry on heat exchanger tubing. When the surface is properly cleaned Eddy Current (ET) can be a fast and very effective Nondestructive inspection.
ACFM; Alternating current field measurement in Alpha, NJ

ITL technicians have completed hundreds ACFM inspections on equipment shells in oil refineries in the Northeast. ACFM is a electromagnetic technique used for detecting cracks breaking the surface.
