ASME Sec VIII; ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC)
Section VIII of ASME is the code that covers the design, manufacturing, inspection and testing of pressure vessels that exceed 15 psig. This code book provides specific requirements on welding and forging, mandatory and nonmandatory appendices detailing supplementary design criteria. Manufacturing companies must be certified by AMSE. API 570
The American Petroleum Institute (API) 570 is a in-service inspection code. Designed for the natural gas, chemical and oil refineries piping systems to prevent failures before they happen. This code covers inspection, rating, repair, and alteration procedures for applicable piping systems. This code applies to metallic and fiberglass-reinforced plastic piping systems, also pressure-relieving devices associated with the systems. Inspectors are tasked with ensuring compliance with this code is followed. Integrity Testlabs has in-house and contract API 570’s to cover any needs that fall under the API 570.
Eddy Current
Eddy Current uses electromagnetic induction with alternating currents passed through a coil. The coil produces alternating magnetic field. Used extensively in the aircraft industry and manufacturing industry to look for surface and subsurface defects. Also used in the Nuclear and Petro chemical industry on heat exchanger tubing. When the surface is properly cleaned Eddy Current (ET) can be a fast and very effective Nondestructive inspection.
Certified Welding Inspector (CWT) in Greenwood Lake, NY
Many jobsites ranging from pipelines, fabrication shops, bridges and structural steel fabricators need or require a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to help run their quality program, certify welders, perform visual inspections on fit-ups, root passes and final inspections of completed welds. This is a worldwide recognized individual certification achieved through the American Petroleum Institute (API) testing program. Many individuals that hold this certifications are formal inspectors or welders. API 650 is the specification that deals with new construction of oil tanks. API 653 deals with the inspection, maintenance, repairs and alterations of storage tanks. This certification is highly sought after due to the volume of storage tanks located all over the United States holding petroleum products. These tanks require an external inspection every 5 years and an internal inspection every 10 years. Integrity Testlabs has performed many storage tank inspections. Radiographic inspections (RT) on the welding, Wet Fluorescent Magnetic Particle inspection on the floor plates and annular ring weld. Also Providing AUT scans, UT Thickness readings on the shell and UT crawler inspections on the outside of the tank.
Turnaround or Outage Support
Every year in the Energy and Refinery industry have their planned and or unplanned outages. Typically planned for the spring or fall. The plant will shut down typically for a week to 4 weeks for maintenance. These outages require a number of skilled workers to accomplish the planned work. Typically working around the clock to accomplish this work. These tasks can include replacing equipment, valves, pumps, and piping. They may also overhaul the equipment or overlay the piping or shells to help with corrosion.
