API 580 was developed by the American Petroleum Institute (API) in 2002. It is primarily adopted in oil and chemical refineries for developing programs to track and maintain inspections in keys areas of the piping or equipment that is affected by the process it contains. API 580 is program will keep workers and communities safe from releases or catastrophic failures. Founded in 1919 the American Welding Society (AWS) is a nonprofit organization that is made up of members and panels of members. They are yearly contributing to advancing the science, technology, and application of welding and allied joining and cutting processes worldwide, including brazing, soldering and thermal spraying. Many well-known certifications come from AWS. The CWI or Certified Welding Inspector is one of them. ASNT; American Society for Nondestructive testing
A nonprofit organization which is governed by a board of directors. ASNT publishes and maintains SNT-TC-1A, Standards, Codes of practice, ANSI/ASNT CP-189 and CP-105. They also cover all aspects of qualification and certification of NDT personnel. Integrity Testlabs has a ANST Level III on staff that certifies our Level II and Level I employees so they meet the SNT-TC-1A requirements.
Pringle, PA Industrial Radiography
Integrity Testlabs performs industrial radiography (RT) every day. We have crews working or available 24/7/365 days a year to perform RT in DE, PA, NJ, NY, and MD. We have the capability to perform x-rays at your jobsite or in house at our Delaware office. We use Ir-192 gamma radiation in Delta 880 projectors. We have SNT-TC-1A qualified level II radiographers to interpret results for weld quality and thinning on pipe walls. Integrity Testlabs also has a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) on staff to make sure all safety requirements are followed and we have a Level III on staff to interpret results, provided training and keep procedures updated or create new ones.
ANST Level I and Assistants
Becoming certified or learning about Nondestructive testing can be achieved in two ways. Enrolling in a school that provides a certificate or degree or getting hired on with a company with no knowledge of the industry and learning on the job. Typically 40hrs of radiation safety is the first step/certificate that is needed to get started. Once the Assistant has had some time in the industry the company will provide them with classroom training either in house, computer based or sending them to a course provided by a known 3rd party. When the Assistants meets the required OJT hours and classroom time. They will test with the company they are with by completing a specific, general and practical exams. When this is completed, they are now a Level II technician.
ASME Sec VIII; ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC)
Section VIII of ASME is the code that covers the design, manufacturing, inspection and testing of pressure vessels that exceed 15 psig. This code book provides specific requirements on welding and forging, mandatory and nonmandatory appendices detailing supplementary design criteria. Manufacturing companies must be certified by AMSE.
